Good points, Thomas - it was only a tiny painting & actually not worth spending so much time on...if I do it again in a larger format, I'll watch out for those things.

I wonder how you can fix it straightforwardly. It involves the upper dark greens and the lower rose bush..
Perspective wise the iron "door" seems to be larger than the gate. Better not fix but just move foward.

Jessica, like the subject and it is really a tricky one. There is a value problem with those light blocks. Their value is close to the sky and too high.

Gateways are a nice subject!, you're right about the problems to resolve before going larger - what you said about the lead in and step  ...

Thanks so much, Robin, Laura & Linda!  Looks like a larger painting may be in order!  Though I'll have to figure out what to do about the lead-in.  There was a larger step in the foreground, but it wasn't attractive.  It is a boring shape for a big painting.  Laura, yes, I do love painting this sort of scene!
