This is a tiny (13 x 18 cm) painting - just to see if it's worth painting a larger view of this... This truly is the gate to a castle in the lovely town of Lourmarin, in Provence, though there is actually a formal garden around a square pool inside the gate. Painted with brushes & palette knife on canvas

Good points, Thomas - it was only a tiny painting & actually not worth spending so much time on...if I do it again in a larger format, I'll watch out for those things.
Thanks for pointing that out, Thomas - you are right! Will fix that!
Hi Jon - yes, thinking about it but haven't figured it out yet!
Gateways are a nice subject!, you're right about the problems to resolve before going larger - what you said about the lead in and step ...
Thanks so much, Robin, Laura & Linda! Looks like a larger painting may be in order! Though I'll have to figure out what to do about the lead-in. There was a larger step in the foreground, but it wasn't attractive. It is a boring shape for a big painting. Laura, yes, I do love painting this sort of scene!
