Thank you Nuala and Jennifer for your comments, as I appreciate it.  It was a challenge to get the look of the canal without going crazy trying to get the natural 'leanings' of the buildings right.  I tried!

This is great! I like the yellows in the buildings and you did a great job with the reflections in the water.

Very well done Cheryl.  Just downloaded Wendy Jelbert's Venice in Acrylics but don't expect to turn out anything nearly as good as this!

WOW!!  That's definitely Venice, love the colour of the buildings and also the water..  Gorgeous colour harmony and great use of complementary colours..  Love the detail also..  This is STUNNING Cheryl..!!!

Thanks so much Idan!  It means a lot to me for you to comment on this since you've actually been there and have seen and experienced what I am painting from a calendar picture! I appreciate that you can see so many things here.  I did restrict the amount of windows....there were so many! and also water pipes, but I hope I got the main one in to represent that aspect. Otherwise, I think it would have been too jumbled looking...but now that I think of it maybe I should have represented it that way. I am planning on doing another style with the same view - a little more surreal.  Wish me luck, because I'm not sure how it will go!  Thanks again for your kind words...have a great time with your Venice painting!

cheryl ! Beautiful one ! I love Venice so much. I have been there two years ago and took many pictures. I started a painting from a photo very similar to yours and left it in the middle. Thanks to you I want to finish it. The water are very realistic as they are very dark and green and reflects the bright sky that emerges from the narrow pass between the buildings. I also love the boats and the color of the buildings and their windows. Love it !
