Vernazza, situated on the Mediterranean sea coast, full of the charm and ambience of a natural genuine Italian village which has been around since the 11th century. Its name derives from 'verna' the Latin word for 'native'. Oil on canvas, 28 x 33 cm February 2015 by George Budai

Yes Glenys, your remarks are very much appreciated. I am glad and thank you for the competent critique.

I really like the boats and the wonderful water. be careful that the distant buildings don't overtake and fight too much with the foreground. and perhaps a few less windows, make them a bit irregular, eg building on the right.

I love 'wonky' boats. I do wonkies.  great effort George.

George, thank you for your time to tell us your know-how. I will try it in my work when we have to paint water again.

Thanks Ningning. I appreciate  very much your words/comment. My first attempt was just to add a different value of the tropical color water on the shadow side of the boats as the whole part of the painting was in shadow. It didn't convinced me and than I change the lighting and bathed the whole picture into the afternoon light with long shadows. Instead of brush I used the pallet knife for the water by laying several times different hues of phthalo green, phthalo blue, magenta and white.  The result was amazing to me too.

George, I love this beautiful work. Especially those skillfully painted waves at the shadow part of the boat, to me, they are excellent and very conviencing. You know how to play your brushes.

George, you have such a nice way of handling that brush with looseness.  Well done.

Thanks very much Michael for allocating your time to critique my work. I am always attentive at your observations and advices as these are coming from an experienced painter and brilliant artist. Regarding the design of the main boat I will only mention that it was done in great part following the original photo (resource 1 of RR). Next time when it will come about boats will make more studies. All other remarks about the color and values were well noted with thanks. The most important aspect about this workshop painting for me was to capture and transfer on canvas the charm and beauty of this coastal village, with the specific of Mediterranean water color and cleanness. Have a nice day! George
