I enjoy copying the old  masters, and will appreciate following Mary's Flemish technique.  Her works are detailed and realist. On the other hand I like to be loose and not too tight or photographic.

Your work show lots of promise. I enjoy working in the Umbers. Burnt umber is warm and raw umber is cool  so I use them both in the under painting and for reducing intensity. Its better than black. I also use it to neutralize black

Thanks for the links

Good morning my friend, and how are you?  The painting is very good.  Looking at a painting on a monitor is so un predictable.  By moving my monitor I can make the painting darker or lighter, so it makes it very difficult to try to determine.  This photo of the finished and the photo of the WIP have different colors too.  Another problem in photographing art and how they appear on the monitor (sad). I really did like the face colors you had in the photo of the WIP.  I really can find no fault in any portion of this painting.  The eyes, ears, nose and mouth look really good.  I know you have been painting for a very long time and have degrees and all, but I have recently become involved in a group doing the Flemish Technique and was wondering if you would be interested in playing around with this too?  Look at this site and see if you would be interested in learning how to paint and have these type of results.  Look at Mary's paintings and look at the start of her geese up to the paintings she is doing these days.  The site is another Ning just like this one so just scroll down and look at her gallery the same. http://community.how-to-draw-and-paint.com/profile/Mary95  THEN http://www.artrenewal.org/articles/On-Line_Books/Bouguereau_William... see what you think of these by W. Bouguereau.  I am attempting to learn the process of the umber layer, gray layer, and color layer for my own style of painting of realism. This is my WIP for the first attempt.  Not sure I am doing it exactly right due to the complexity of the pattern on the pots, but this is just a partial finished umber layer.  Let me know you you think you would like to play around with this technique.  THEN
