This is a better version of the previously upload image. You can see the more subtle colors in the white rose than the earlier version.

I love the colours you used on this and the crispness of the rose against the smoky background

Like this, Richard. In the month I've been gone you have been very busy! Glad to see and hear it! How are you doing with that new Plein Air setup? Just now getting the time to consider trying my own. Hated to hand over my "slice" in the Group Project...so much excitement and fun over there, but knew I had to be fair to the whole project. Haven't started this months challenge but hoping to pretty quickly. Happy to see you have made it back to painting again. Great and good stuff.

Guys,

Thanks for kind comment.

Linda, this is a small oil.  I painted in the background and then blurred it by brushing over it with a clean, dry blending brush (very soft brush).  You must keep the brush clean in order to prevent the painted areas from becoming muddy.  So wipe it often.  Also, you must just "kiss" the painted areas that you want to soften with very light strokes.  I also used Winsor & Newton Liquin Fine Detail medium in areas. This allows for subtle glazes and fine blending of the paint (helps smooth out the brush stokes).  The background on the original looks more homogenous and attractive than it does on this reproduction.  This is a poor reproduction with elements of the background too light in some areas and too dark in others.  I need to work on my reproduction methods.

Very nice painting Richard.  I've been trying to paint a background like this for a water falls backdrop and haven't been able to do it yet.  Is this oil?  How did you get the hazy look that feels like leaves?  I like the teal, purple, navy, green in the background. Is this done with a very small brush? I keep trying and keep having to scrape it off :)

Beautiful delicate colour on the rose petals; wonderfully done!

Beautiful Richard, i love the violet/red stems and the way it follows through into the tips of the buds.  The background is beautifully subdued and the rose is breathtakingly peaceful........
