Nice one Jen, could you please email me directly a larger photo of this? (if you want it to go in the magazine and be critiqued that is - you didn't put IA in the tags so I'm not sure).

Those colours are really different !

somehow, I like this one best of your two.  the sun has a nice reflection in the sand and it is shining nicely.  Nicely done with the wave splashes, and I love the gull in the sky.  The 2 gulls on the beach doesn't bother me.

Jen, after further study, I would remove the gull on the left and leave the (1) on the right (odd number) and make its' reflection a little stronger. I feel that so much is going on, energy wise, that this would help give a calming contrast.

I would also move the flying gull, which is almost out of the picture, over to slightly left of middle canvas and slightly lower, but not in line with the top edge of the largest rock formation, to bring it back into the picture. Also he is too far away to be considered part of the group of gulls on the ground. Before you make any changes, put your computer mouse cursor over what you would be moving or removing to see if notice a positive difference in your composition ! ....There are many sites that address " the rule of odd numbers"....ck it out ...it has made a big difference in my work ! Let me know what you decide to do....if you don't change a thing, your painting is still a head turner.....if you do make changes, you will be making something already good,.....even better ! Hope this helps !

Pauline and also Luba,  thank you for taking the time to give such great comments.

Can't believe I did not see the lining up of the two on the beach. if I can and oils not too tacky will amend. As Richard did the two plus one perched on the rock - I also tried the rock one but did not look right, so omitted it and thought the one flying would make up the 3. Guess Luba from you picking this up maybe need the three?
