Thank you everyone for the helpful tips and critiques. I definitely tried to make the boats the focus of the piece and I think if I gave them some more sunlight they would pop. Thanks Sharon.  Maybe next time I'll just put a water skier out there making a big rooster tail so I wouldn't have to worry about the reflections ;). Thanks again for the help everyone.

I read a comment from Richard on another painting where he mentioned that some downstrokes strokes in the reflection can help.  The comment was on Karen Kestermann's 'Canoes for Rent' painting.

I like the boats addition. Agree with the comment about the water. The clarity of the reflection of the mountains doesn't read as natural. Generally in reflections - lights are darker and darks are lighter.

Complimenting you on your mountains!  Top half of the painting is great, but I have a problem with the water, looks like a jet ski just came by, but they are boats with no one in them to make the waves!  But, very good attempt, and if you put sunlight on the boats, they will pop more and then subdue the tree reflections.  Oh, sorry, just realized the waves are not waves, they are mountain reflections.  So, now, the only problem I see is the water reflections being too dark.  They are hard to make, but Richard said that dark reflections are to be lighter and light reflections are to be darker in water.  Feel free to critique mine, Crystal Lake.

I know what you mean about remembering the combinations of color, especially if you need to go back for touch up or as you say the reflections. I feel the focus is the boats in the foreground because the shed is behind the trees. I have a question though, should the boats be a touch bigger? The reflection of the mountain is right at the oar so it looks like a wave of water when I first look at it. I'm no expert but that is what I see. I love your mountains.

I especially love the highlights on the tops of the trees on the left as it really gives a direction to the light! And a very nice job of adding the boats.

Thank you Susan :) I used ultramarine blue, cadmium yellow medium, and cadmium red medium with a lot of time mixing to get the colors I wanted lol.  I didn't remember the right combo however that I used on the mountains so I had trouble getting the right color in the reflection.

There is a lovely clarity to your colours, Byron, which seems to be difficult with the strictly limited palette.  Your tones are spot on, too.  Well done!  What primaries did you use?
