9x12 smooth finish panel. First time using this. I just went ahead and placed my strokes without re doing them. Went with the flow of my observation on the black and white print out. Would my strokes be considered sharp? Because if they are..then im starting to understand what you artist mean by sharp and soft edges. If you look at my other one. I feel there's more of a softness to it.

You are developing a distinctive style. I can recognize your brush strokes in the field of other paintings. There is a flat, planar quality to your work, which I like. And the hard stabbing nature of your hand has an immediacy that is insistent and vivacious. Keep walking in this direction. You won't be disappointed.

Montalvo, Betsy sure did bring up many good points for you to consider.  Trying to find "one's self-style" can take a very long time (if you ever figure it out, then you do something accidently perhaps, and change in that direction for a while".  LOL  Sounds like you are still in the first exploring stage and you might consider trying lots of different ways to do the same thing.  i.e. these first/second try, as different as they were from each other, both were really good in their on way.

Hugs, Roena

Thank you Betsy for making me aware with the questions you have brought to my attention.

Hi, Montalvo!

Putting your strokes down and leaving them is exactly right!

Did you like it? Which painting do you like better? First try or second? (My money is on number 2).If you could fix the first one to your liking, what would you do? If you find something about this one that you don't like, what would you do?

I am not going to say which one I like--you need to put them up side by side and take a long look at them and think about the things you like and don't like. Then decide what to do next.

There is something to consider about too hard and too soft edges; and exactly where edges should be soft and where they should be hard. There is also something to consider about expressive, energetic strokes  like you have here. Wow! This sky is full of the energy of moving clouds.

You can figure it out. YOU are an artist, too, my dear. Just look above!

I can't wait to see your final wet-on-wet painting!
