Thank you Nancy! You are right about the highlights and shadows being too strong. I look at it now and can't even tell where the sun is coming from so...I'll try again someday!

Nice job, Linda. I also had trouble making that truck pop. I think what did it was making the highlights strong as well as the shadows. It was a definite challenge.

Nice feeling in your painting. The background is soft and values close together. If you keep the background soft and then pop the truck by increasing the values darker areas and highlights with sharper edges on the truck it will help the truck to be the focus of attention. Study RR's for value and edges also those posted by Stu. Good luck

Thank you Cristina and Linda for your kind comments. I wish I knew how to make this kind of painting "sing"! My values are too close and the painting doesn't give a clear indication of where the sun is. But it was an interesting and challenging workshop.
