Hi Xiao, the Zorn palette (named after a painter) is yellow ochre, black and red, plus white for tints.  The black can look blue in this context, although apparently Zorn himself added cobalt blue sometimes, so I do too if it needs it.

Casey,  I was checking some of your painting and realized that I have missed this workshop1 painting of yours. Very beautiful and painterly.  I want to ask you what is a Zorn palette? I am struggling with colour and would like to learn how to make it work better.  Thank you.

Yes, this was a struggle for me and I think it shows. Such a wonderful learning experience though - and I used the Zorn palette with a little added blue. It's amazing how versatile such a limited palette can be.

I really like this. For me it's nearly there - great design and concept making it more of an abstract but there are a few areas like the sky poking between the upright branches where you could have slowed down and added some real crispness in there. Some of the darks have gotten too muddy to which loses the form. Exciting work!
