Thank you Rita and Jessica for your kind comments. This is really a learning process and Patricia is the leading the way.
Patricia, I am using all cadmiums: cadmium orange (hue) plus a little cadmium yellow medium (hue) and cadmium red medium (hue). I have never used New Gamboge. Should I use transparent colour for glowing light instead of opaque colours? Where could I get the information on whether a particular colour is opaque or transparent? I don't really know the real difference between hue and chroma. I heard people use those terms to describe colour, but in my mind they are all refer to colours.
Very beautiful, Xiao. The light is absolutely great, the last light of a beautiful day, well done :))
This is absolutely beautiful Xiao! I love the spotlight effect!
BTW....Darkening that tree made a BIG difference...
Just wandering what yellow hue you used Xiao?? A cadmium, which is more opaque, or a more transparent colour like New Gamboge for example??
Here is my third try. As Patricia suggested, I darken the rocks on the right, and as Ningning suggested, I lighten the shadow on the first three smaller rocks on the right, so the glow area seems enlarged. Because the short distance between the rocks on the right, I can't make the far right rock too dark. That will cause the differences in value on the shadow of all rocks too dramatic, so I change the tree on the right lower corner to a big dark cactus to darken the tone of the painting. It seems working. Here is the grayscale comparison of the two paintings:
Thank you very much Patricia and Ningning! It may still not perfect. Critiques are welcome.
