You're welcome Xiao!!  It sure looks a bit like your painting.  The shapes are similar.  Look forward to seeing the changes. :))

wow!  Patricia!!  Thank you so much for finding this picture!!!  It looks almost like my design but it is so much more and so beautiful.  This is precisely the effect I am looking for.  And thank you for flipping the picture so it is much easier to make the comparison.  i will study it and modify my paiting.  Thank you again for your hard work.

Xiao, here is a picture I found on the internet.  It is by Albert Bierstadt.  I just flipped the original photo, because from reading your reply, I think you want your light source to come from the left hand side.

As for the glowing effect, thank you Patricia and Ningning for your thoughtful suggestions, but I think in here, the light is not shining directly on the cliff. The light source is behind the cliff, so it would not have spot light effect on the rock itself. It would be a glow at the edge of the cliff to make it lighter than inside of the cliff. The thing that is really bothers me is the colour of the sky at the spot. I have tried to use lower value colour there, but because the whole painting is so warm, light colour there did not have the glow effect I was looking for. But when I put higher value colour there, it becomes a orange spot that is disconnected to the rest of the sky, but if I warm up the whole sky to harmonize it, the sky would compete with the rock. I am not sure how to solve it, so I left the orange spot of sky there as a puzzle, to see anyone here can help me to make it right. The best way to try to fix it would be using Photoshop, but I don't have the program and don't know how to use it.

Thank you Patricia, Ningning, Dorian and Aurelia for your kind comments.  At first, I was a little hesitated on wether or not to put the bush on the corner. Since I have green on my palette (I was using the triangle Gamus mask in my little study), and I thought there were too many hard rocks in the painting.  It may need something to soften it.  So I tried to put the bush there, low key, touch of green here and there. It was a experiment.  I am glad you like it.

This is a beautiful painting.  Lovely mood, atmospheric perspective, use of colours and composition.  The colours seem like its dawn or dusk.  Nice brushstrokes too and yes, I like your green bush as well.  Good job!

Patricia, what a nice idea to shine a little torch light on the painting!

Xiao,
I have been thinking about this glowing effect on top of the mountain.  Although the mountain shape is rectangular, a sphere might be a better example to get that glowing light effect...

Xiao Li, I forgot to tell you. I was so enjoyed your greens at the frontground.  It is a bush in desert but beautiful. I have similar composition like yours. But I was not sure how to paint the bush at right side. So I had to eliminate it. Now I learned. Thank you Xiao Li.

Xiao Li, you did very well. I can see the effort you made for the glowing effect. I like your composition and colour. I enjoy the mood of this painting. A peaceful late afternoon desert landscpe.   As for the things bother you, I think maybe is because the sky be influnced by earth colour more than it needs. And another thing is value. I have the same problem. When I was struggling for the details, I changed the relationship of the value. If I were you I would check and enlarge the differences between the value of sky and landscape.  Just for your references.
