Very beautiful & interesting - love the colour contrast between sand & water - and the boy is superb!  Almost feel like I am there watching him in real life, waiting to see if that sandal will fall off again!

Ann, May I kiss you?  I think you are right. The background should be softer and greyer in order to let the boat and boy standout . I will carefully loose the waves and let the parallel lines not too obvious. In fact the photo is worse. I put on some bigger waves to break the parallel lines. Seems it is not enough. Need more operation to solve the problems. Ann, I appreciate your suggestions indeed. Big hugs!!

Hi Ningning, I have missed seeing your paintings. Welcome back ! The proportions and feeling of movement of the boy are very nicely done. The sense of shadow and light on the figure helps with the feeling of movement. I think that it would help the boy to stand out from the background if the ocean were rendered more loosely just as you have the beach. I think the parallel lines of waves are a little distracting. You are a very talented figure painter and have shared a light hearted moment here.

Laura, I am glad that you enjoy it. The photos were taken from a beach of north of Peru. This boat the young boy is carrying on his back is called "Caballito deTotora". It is a kind of boat made with marsh reeds. Peruvian are using them for fishing for thousands of years up to now.  This boy has a lot of fun playing with his boat though he is struggling of keeping his sandals on his feets when he was walking in the sand with shallow water. I painted it by using the photos though I changed some thing of the boy and the background.

Sharon, Thank you for your attention. For this coming workshop I will try to paint grey colours of nature, more air influence in my work. I will let you know after I finished and uploaded for your critiques. I love all your paintings you uploaded here. One of the reasons that you can paint so well is because you observe carefully. Am I right? About the boy's sandals, you make me laughing , yes, all the way to the shore, he was struggling to keep them on his feet.  Several times , almost lost his balance. But he managed walking and dancing with the sandals to the end. He was a good looking happy boy.

Mario and Silvana,Thank you very much for your encouragement and time to write your nice comments. Let's have fun with our workshop21 challenge.  I will try to paint beautiful greies as Richard showed us. Waiting to see your good work soon. The more I learn the more difficult I feel to paint . Funny isn't it.

This is adorable, when I first saw it I thought that he was having trouble keeping his sandals on. Love the rich colors.

Jon, Thank you so much. You are a very kind person. Because you applaude for a runner failed to arrive the terminal on time, but tried hard to finish the distaince requested. I will hand in my work on time for this coming workshop. About this work, you are so right, Subject is the same or more important compare with the techniques. The background should be greyer, I think. Jon, Good luck for your workshop21.
