Believe it or not, this is my try at painting looser. I thought I was until I stepped back. sigh. I even followed Richard's technique of not drawing first, but I guess I just reworked it to death.
The antique/patina look is just because the weather is cloudy today and I couldn't get a better shot.

I don't get the impression of overworked at all. Very nice work....and you nailed that shot glass shine! :)
This is a big WOW painting Casey. Love it. How did you get your silver to have such a beautiful "shine"? Its really very lovely.
Reworked?! Not at all. I think this is a success. The lighting is not an accident. It is the mood. Great value range. We have to be patient with ourselves as we compare to Richard. His experience and insight came from walking the same path you're on today!
Love this dramatic composition with the cloth heading off into the background like a rocky country road very inventive and the painting is very successful. Excellent work wish I had your capacity to work those beautiful opaque whites.
Casey, your silver cup rocks! It has both looseness and realism. Well done.
Ann, I totally agree with you.
We are all too hard on ourselves. The cloth and cup are very nicely done. The little slice of orange has a juicy look and an orange glow. Lovely
Casey, for my eyes they are beautiful and very impressive. I like your big brush strokes, full of life. Very good job!!! I also tried to followed Richard's technique of not drawing and nor under painting of value but directly do them in color phase. I failed too. My color was not joicy and strong but very week . I worked hard to get the values correct. In fact, I struggled so hard, I painted myself, my face, my clothes, my shoes, the floor. I realized that I just had not got the capacity to be able to do this advanced technique. Richard said we develope our skill of painting by standing on the shoulder of the gaint. Now when the gaint let us to stand on his shoulder, I am too weak to clamb up to there. Just jocking. Li
Thank you - I've already fixed some of the shapes but I think the more I work on it, the tighter it will become. Practice, practice...
