11x13" Acrylic on Canvas

My preferred medium has been oil with acrylic used occasionally for under painting so workshops in acrylic have provided a steep learning curve. My stay wet palette seems to turn into a too wet palette diluting the paint so would retarder be a better way to go. Any comments appreciated.

Great job Denis. I can't fault this. (except maybe the angle of the base of the dome could be more horizontal!) Awesome stuff.

Great work. When you say you paing oil with acrylic, do you mean your underpainting is acrylic? I get confused with that.Once you paint with oil, you can't go back over it with acrylic, can you? i have heard you can go over oils with pastels.

Nice painting.

I use sta-wet system and like it.  However, I found that I don't have to keep the paper or sponge as wet as the instructions say.  Indeed the paints become soupy with that much water.  After soaking the paper, I towel it to remove excess water then I squeeze the sponge to remove excess water...wet but not dripping water.  Still there are some colors like ultramarine blue and burnt umber that absorb water over time (2 or 3 days) and become soupy.  The key to that problem is smaller qualities of those paints and replenish more often.  With the right amount of water, my paints will remain usable for over a week.  Also, I soak the sponge in water with peroxide every couple of weeks.   I don't like using retarders, but do use glazing medium on occasion to blend and layer on paint.  Hope that helps.
