Do you have any goals for your painting?

Improve my overall skills. I usually don't work from photos so I need the skills to transfer the images from my mind to the canvas in a way that looks close to realistic and works well as a design. Specific goals include painting clouds, metal, glass, and atmospheric effects. Also I need to know how to figure out the proper use of light to use in some of my compositions that are unusual settings.
