Me too, I spend a big part of a day analyzing Sheila Mather's paintings. She is so sweet. Love her work. Did you notice she groups her complements side by side in the placement? red/green, yellow/purple, blue/orange At least on the path one she did I thought. Ro

LOL Andrea, I too have trouble seeing color in the landscape, although, I think I am getting better after doing a little in RR color course and "trying to pay attention". I am convenced that (he comes my bull) there really is not much color out there!!!!! The artist just pulls pretty colors from color theory out of his hat and paints the picture. My only skin tone color I know about is to mix white, CRL and YO. I am not a portrait artist. Even looking at RR paintings when he shows the scene and then the painting......those colors are not there. LOL /// We lived in Iraan, TX for 23 years. Population 1,000, 1 blinking light, you could drive to the other side of town and back in 5 minutes and we drove 80 miles one way for groceries. Sound fam? I was the art teacher of the town. I taught oils, WC, and WC with gouache, prisma colors pencils and childrens drawing. With DVDs and this site to talk to people and ask for help, I think you could do pretty well on your own. IF you will do the exercises on the DVDs. I am willing to help you as much as I can, and everyone on this site that I have ask, "How did you do that?", they told me. Great bunch of people here. Got to run.......we are off on a day trip to Padre Island National Seashore. Talk soon, Ro

See color as in people? What exactly are we talking about here? Anytime I start having problems I start doing research. Images.google.com has many resources. Also, have you searched for videos on youtube? For instance, Pastel portraits? Colors in portraits? What ever.........Let me know what colors you are trying to see, and I will see if I can think of more help or might know of a person to send you to. I dont do pastels myself. Ro

LOL, I guess today is the day to talk to Andrea! I just wanted to encourage you to start drawing on good paper. Darrel Tanks tells about some good paper. Once I did the elk and turkey I gave them to my nephew and he framed them in a double mat of one black and a white mate with a nice black frame. They looked so nice. I had no idea the graphite drawing could be so pretty. Your drawings are quite nice, and I believe if they were on paper rather than in your sketch book you could frame them. I just know you would enjoy getting to see your art! If you only have a few places suitable to hang the drawings, just switch them out putting your newer drawing up to look at. I think you are doing so well and already capturing a very good likeness. Ro

I have a really good friend called Daisie on another NING site. I really think you might enjoy her art. All she does is graphite. http://community.how-to-draw-and-paint.com/profile/daisie?xg_source=profiles_memberList //// scroll down to her gallery and select "view all". Ro

You might enjoy Darrel Tank..... http://www.fivepencilmethod.com/free-video-drawing-tutorials/ He has an amazing method for drawing people. I watched the free lessons and did the 2 balls that I have on my gallery doing his tapered stroke exercise. He keeps sending me free lessons, but he also sells DVD lessons. I think his is one of the better portrait artist I have seen. At least the free lessons are good even if you did not buy his portrait ones. Ro

No clue how to take good photos of art. Mine never look good! One time I thought they did well outside in the shade laying flat on the ground. No glare. Then that seemed to not work....I blame it on my camera! /// Agree that in B&W pencil work really dark and really light helps a lot. Ro

Hey Andrea, Nice to hear from you! I am glad you liked my gallery. Thank you for the comment. Dont you just love RT Brain! I went through the book Rt Brain and everyone's in the group drawings looked very similar. Pretty amazing we thougth. Richard's DVD's are shipped from NY and arrive in just a short time. I have both the color and master class. When you do your exercises or just to read now...FORUM, then PAINT, then COLOR or MASTER CLASS and you can post your things there for discussion. Fun. // Gifts is just a fun way to say I am appreciating you today or thinking about you today, etc. There is a free one and the others are a way for the NING owners of the site (Not Richard) to make money........everyone gives the free one! LOL Hope that helps. OH, when you go to the PHOTOS you can sort by RANDOM and see a lot of everyones art. Good way to see more quickly.

Hi, I just thought I would pop over and give you a big welcome to the site. I have made so many friends here. I hope you will find new friends and encouragement too. // As a jump start for you, the paintings are under the tab PHOTOS. I encourage you to not only look at the beautiful art, but also take a moment and leave a comment of encouragement. I believe all artists enjoy receiving some feedback from other artist. There will be times when you will be able to leave an idea or a trick that you have learned to be helpful to the person. // I look forward to seeing your art. Ro
