Hey Chris, Sorry to bother you since you said you were busy with school, but If I dont tell when it comes up I might forget. Terry posted a free book on drawing the figure you might like to download. Go to FORUM, "Introduce Yourself", "Please Intruduce Yourself", Page 2, Look near the bottom of the page for Terry Caire and an attatchment --- 1FigureDrawingALoomis.pdf, 23.8 MB
------ He recommends it and it is free. Ro

Oh, I forgot, my most recent B&W studies were in oil working on the color course of Richard Robinson. The goal there was to look at color objects and translate them in to value. Whew! Not seeing any of your work I have no clue what to suggest, but I did think if this. Look, look, look then draw. The more you look the more you notice. My most recent learning was doing the 3 pears, onion, and orange studies. I knew there was reflected light bounding off of the table back onto the object. What I had not seen was the reflected light from the object bouncing "into the cast shadow" on the table. I rigged up my set up where there was only one "spot light" shinning on the set up. Everything else was as dark as I could make it in the day time. That is how I got the good shadows to show up. Ro

My drawings were graphite pencil, and I am so glad you liked them. /// With the things on the internet these days, you can get a great deal of instruction for free. // There are some who comment here, but a lot that only look. My suggestion to you is to comment on art as that is how you make friends. Friends notice friends art and will comment back (I think). Right off - go to MEMBERS and type in Terry Clare. I was looking at his galley last night and noticed he had a bunch of figure oil painting studies. He is one that will comment, is very knowledgable and willing to help. You want him as your friend! /Go back to my gallery and look for the balls. That is an exercise of Darrel Tanks tapered stroke that he teaches on -- http://www.fivepencilmethod.com/free-video-drawing-tutorials./At the bottom of that screen you can sign up for his free lessons. He is a teacher and does have lessons you can buy if you want to go on with his method, but HEY the free stuff has good information too. /A lot of my drawings were done as exercises out of the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. Very good book IF YOU WILL do the exercises! I learned so much that I had the courage to attempt the turkey and the elk. / If you want free watercolor book go tohttp://community.how-to-draw-and-paint.com/ and look on the right for the free e-book called Watercolor Secretes. I have read it and it is good--get you started in WC. / For oils - our very own "king" Richard Robinson that started this site has some free lessons you can sign up for http://www.livepaintinglessons.com/ . -- Go to http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=drawing+the+figure+in+graphite&aq=f --I searched for 'Drawing the figure in graphite" and got those results. You can search of other things too. OK Chris - that should get you started. ...now comes the magic words " You want to draw, you want to draw, you want to draw" That was the "power of suggestion being sent over the air waves.....he he Ro

Hi, I just thought I would pop over and give you a big welcome to the site. I have made so many friends here. I hope you will find new friends and encouragement too. // As a jump start for you, the paintings are under the tab PHOTOS. I encourage you to not only look at the beautiful art, but also take a moment and leave a comment of encouragement. I believe all artists enjoy receiving some feedback from other artist. There will be times when you will be able to leave an idea or a trick that you have learned to be helpful to the person. // I look forward to seeing your art. Ro
