I would like to paint a lot this year to be able to go to shows and market myself and eventually paint full time. I am a full time graphic designer but have begun to take interest in what I can do with painting and drawing as a career.

Hi Josh, thanks for your comments. I usually prefer a pretty smooth canvas texture, I just find it nicer to paint on. I use robert simmons brushes in filberts and flats, those cheap pastry type brushes from 1" to 3" and some others... here's a video about that: http://www.livepaintinglessons.com/freelesson/bigbrush_littlebrush.php
