I am about to undertake a large painting in oil. It is 4 ft by 2 ft horizontal. I want to paint Mount Rainier in Washington. The mountain is off to the right, not taking up the whole painting. Any suggestions how to go about this? I have printed out some photos and taped them together so far.

Hey, Rome wasn't made in a day! lol
it would be easier to comment if we can see some visual info...(maybe...)
Yay :D
I will post the beginnings tomarrow! I got it all covered in red orange.
Could we have a sneak peek? lol
Now I am trying to figure out what time of day I would like it to be. I may have to use other reference photos of different times of day to mimic this scene. Of course I want it to be dramatic! Help! lol
Thanks, Eddie, will do.
I would do some very small notans or sketches. 1"x2" to get a general feel for the value pattern and design. Since you are the artist, you can move mountains. (that took me several years of outdoor painting to figure out) if you don't like it, move it, remove it, or modify it.
Happy Painting
I'm looking forward to seeing this ambitious painting Sharon :D
Try cropping parts of the scene until you are satisfied with the composition
Hi Marta. No tips yet. I haven't started it. I usually just mull it over in my head for a few weeks first (which I have been doing) This is my biggest one yet! I have lots of reference photos, since we just went there (Washington). I started a few sketches on paper so far 6" x 12". The whole scene won't fit, so I am going to have to shrink it or leave something out. Not sure if I will do next months workshop or not yet. It seems like we were supposed to copy exactly what the set up was like. Not sure though.
