Oil. 12"x10" same colours as 2nd sunset.
Did this from the original photograph, however, changed to more orange/red.
First time I have undertaken one of Richard's workshops, and decided to do this one as love painting sunsets, and had never undertaken value scales for this type of work. Thoroughly enjoyed myself. Set myself one hour this morning to accomplish the 4 small paintings and sort of achieved, except as said on previous ones, for spilling my coffee (not my fault but my little cat's!).

Your welcome. Always nice to hear someone brag on your paintings. Grin
To date the largest I have attempted was the aspen painting for my niece. It was a 3'x3'. I would like to do more large ones, but impossible in a motor home. I painted that one in her house. LOL
Rowena, thanks. yes, the painting had no glazing. Will visit and browse thru the links. Love Old masters, but not always that patient I am afraid. I do love my large oils (3-5ft). thks for posting Paul's comments.j
Hi Jen, Actually I was not the one to find your beautiful painting to use as a "example", but rather the "leader" of the Renaissance Painting Techniques on I Draw and Paint. Paul (Damaclese) Since he found it he might be a member of this site too? Here is his comment when he posted the painting.
"""there is much about this simple painting i find technically very good though i would say its mostly likely just strait painting no glazing that i can see. shes handled the light masterfully Note the bright sun is clean and clearly defined she brought the light out skipping it along the undersides of the clouds there is much interest in this for the eye the dark foreground anchors the work down giving the eye a sens of wait it has the added benefit that the dark is just that a dark next to a light heightening the sens of brightness """"
We call our group the Flemish Group for short. It is the painting in 7 layers like the old masters way of painting. Remember RR mention ArtPapa.com for the glazing............that is the way he paints (7 layers). Very realistic stuff and as far from impressionist as you can get. giggle
http://community.how-to-draw-and-paint.com Here is the link. Ten to one you will already know someone on that site as "we all tend to be all over the internet in all sorts of sites". smile
http://community.how-to-draw-and-paint.com/group/renascencepainting... If you are interested in painting like the old masters way, check us out.
The sunset I am working on now is day 20 on the painting and almost satisfied with the sky. Got frustrated on the foreground and painted it out today. LOL Dont you just love oils and the ability to fix stuff. smile
Give me a minute and I will post my WIP on my page here for you to see. Then I will delete it when you say you have seen it. Roena
Roena, Goodness, how complimentary to choose mine out of all the great ones here! Thank you. You can see the one prior to this also, as colours were as per Richard for this workshop - UltraBlue, Magenta, Cad Red Light, Cad Orange, Cad Yellow Light plus white of course. It was just the way they were mixed together for the colouring to be as it is. Hope of use to your group. Would I be able to ask what site the discussion is on? Thks again.
Hi Jen. There are several of us doing other sunsets on another site, and someone found your painting as a good example of "what to do and what works" to discuss. (Good for you!). Anyway, one of the people was wondering what colors you used in this painting. Would you mind sharing that info and I will share it with the other group. Thanks, Roena
Wld like to say to all a big thank you for your comments. It is really good to receive feedback on our work. I do appreciate. Thanks again. Must admit tho, that the 1hr on these was very very pushed but got there in the end, probably due to all being quite small.
beautiful!!
soft and delicate.. right up my ally.. love the colors and hues.. great job here..
Very good Jen! Smiles : ))
Beautiful...particularly the gradation of your colors. Very nice, very convincing...not so intense that it is not believable. ( =
