Hi Tammy, found my picture, posting it now.
Thanks Lawrence - all very good suggestions. I really appreciate you taking the time to write such a nice long note. I think I will try to work on it some more, as I would really like to improve my landscapes.
I would love to see your painting if you find it.
Very nice Tammy (a similar scene to something I've done - must dig out the picture and post it one day).
It seems to me that the light is coming from the sea side so I wouldn't expect there to be much colour in the rocks. I like it as it is. And I like your waves very much. And your overcast sky, and your wet sand, and your light.
Only comment is that the outline of the main rock seems a bit sharp, as is its reflection on the sand. Just a bit of softening (particularly of the reflection) and I can't think of anything else that could possibly need doing .... oh well, maybe just a touch more colour from the reflected clouds on the sand .... and maybe it's my imagination, but does the horizon line seem a touch high on the right hand side?
Just nitpicking, but when a painting is this good that's all that can be done!
Thanks Mairo. I wish I could do the Cannon Beach justice. It is such a beautiful area. I especially liked the reflections on the beautiful flat beach. We took a gazillion pictures there but this is the first I have tried to paint as I find landscapes very difficult. I tend to do more of the close ups of the rocks rather than the big scenes.
Hi Jon. Thanks for your comment. I'd like to think that the subdued look is due to the photograph but I'm not entirely sure that is the case. I've tried to convince myself that is it but so far I haven't been successful with that. :) I think I will revisit it and see what I can do. Thanks again.
This is a beautiful tranquil scene, I really like it. I think you hae managed the waves particularly well with good perspective and sense of distance. The wet sand and it's reflections look very good too.
Could you not inject some more subtle color into the rocks and foreground, Tammy? - it feels a bit subdued...
