Although your light between the two objects is interesting, moving the two objects together so they overlap a little and their shadows join together and they each reflect a little color onto the other often strengthens the work. Set it up that way and give it a try. If you don't have a light box, there is an easy to build lightbox plan on Larry Seiler's "Painting from Life" blog; if you are interested, I will send you the URL to find it. I built a box from his plan when Richard was doing his 4 month still life workshop series and it worked out really well. If you really want to accelerate your still life painting, take a look at Richard's 4 workshop series; it will give you a lot of pointers. Hope this is helpful.
