Thanks Aurelia!
I agree with all you say. I guess good marketing has also much to do with confidence. Maybe also trying all kinds of stuff to sell. Personally i want to avoid too many battlefields I think at this stage i above all need to grow the quality of my work and my confidence. Both happens out there i think. It's nice to be lucky but priceless to feel it is deserved.

Thanks Thomas.  I agree with getting better and better, but it is all about marketing.  I see many bad art selling just because of good marketing, so I don't think you need to get better and better and hopefully someone will eventually take notice of you work.  It is all about marketing you product.  I don't know much about marketing, so I reading up a lot about that.

I am doing the competition thing this year.  Hopefully you get notice somewhere there.  Some of the big art magazines always have some competition thing going and if you are selected, they will do an article of your work.  You never know when you are lucky!

Thank you Jessica!

Aurelia, it is as you have described your experiences with other websites... Fairly hard.
I offer this one for 120$ there. My chances to sell it are roughly 1 out of 10. I am featured artist currently because i took oart at the monthly DPW and was picked top 15. So my paintings apear on top of their website and my paintings receive about 3 times more clicks than usually. Strangely there is as good as no effect on sales.
My strategy is this: 1. get better 2. even better 3. gradually grow my audience by posting in my blog and on facebook 4. take part at online competions (eg dpw, faso) 4. get better 5. create a website.
Online is not enough so besides that i will have an exhibition at a local art club, hopefully in autumn and at some stage i will look for a suitable local gallery...
Well, maybe we should ask somebody who already made it all happen...

Hi Thomas, I notice you are on Daily Paintworks.  Do you actually sell stuff there?  I am thinking of also opening an account there but first want to know if it is really worth it.  There is so many websites out there that promise sales, but nothing actually happened except taking your money.

Interesting shapes & unusual subject, skilfully painted!

Thanks Michael! The plan for yesterday was actually not to paint too many branches or trees. Accomplished by ignorance ;-)

Thank you Aurelia, Jon and Michael!
This is one of my rare cases where the painting looks better than the photo and photoshopping doesn't get it close. In the painting the colors, in particular the whites and yellow, pop out much more. Together with the notan... the bright chimney against the dark vertical shadow... Turn most attention to the complexity on the lower left, the intended focal region.
Looking at all my recent plein air paintings i found that they all kind of faded out towards the edges. In this one i wanted to use the canvas space and put something striking very close to the border. I was worried about the white of the ship being too close to the border. But that white spot on top of that little building structure on the left sparkles even more. The GKM sign is the secondary focus i think, having the painting in front of me...not that i planned that all... a lucky outcome... :-)
