10"x12" oil on canvas from Richard`s second reference photo.
For a beginner it is challenging to paint all that rock!
Overall I am quiet happy with the final result.
Color palette: Titanium white, Yellow ochre, red ochre, Cadmium red, Ultramarine blue, Light yellow and Crimson.

EXCELLENT!
Thanks Nancy! So much still to learn!
Any suggestions to make this more pleasing would be most welcome....
cheers
Gary, I try to learn wandering between realistic and impressionistic as I can. This piece I did well as I have Richard's demo to guid me. I have to practise more how to simplify the scene when I have to design a painting by myself and loosen up with brush work . You have a good eye on detail and that is a gift. you can show the viewers in the way of impressionistic too, that is what I am struggling to do. There will be a lot of fun learning here from our teacher and our lovely fellow artists.
Hi Li,
Many thanks for the encouragement, I do like the realistic looks in paintings but I love the more impressionistic styles like you/others and Richard have. Have to learn how to loosen up! I really enjoyed painting the grand Canyon,
cheers
Gary, you did a great job. You are much better than you think about yourself. Apart from your nice balance of value, light and color harmony of your mountans, your texture of the rocks are very realistic. And those leaves catch my eye and make me smile. Very nice.
Thanks Stuart and Ann, much appreciated!, once I gat the values good I will have to work on my colors!
cheers Gary
The blue background is lovely with soft shapes but still well defined as far away structures.
Very nice work Gary. Stu
