Hi Dirk. Thanks - I really appreciate your crit and agree with you about pushing those back hills further back. It has been a problem of mine before which I must be more aware of. I'm not sure at all what the colours look like to other folk but between my laptop at the gallery and my PC at home, there's a huge colour difference! If things quieten down a bit in the next couple of days, I may be able to retake the photograph as it seems rather too yellow here on my PC. I'm tickled I've managed to be more conventional with this painting and left my beloved palette knife on the shelf ... I've just got to try and do it more often :-)
Have a wonderful Christmas Dirk, if we don't get to chat before then!
Linda the gradient in the water is well done & the colours really have that summer feel. Perhaps you could have added more of the atmosphere colour to the back islands & lighten in value to push them further away. That would make more of a feature of the great movement you captured in the tree. Overall a nice painting & a good use of dark & light areas.
Only problem is .... it looks like sand but should have a little layer of water there!!! :-) I should have put ripples in before I put the shadows in .... but hindsight is a great thing. Nevertheless, thanks for your kind words.
And you too have a great Christmas! No snow here in this part of Ireland - except for a bit on the mountains near where we live - but at least I know I'll be able to fly out of Dublin airport for my daughter's wedding in Slovenia.
All the very best Annie .... and we'll chat again in 2012
Looking good Lynda Shadows on the sand are great. Have a great Christmas
