This was fun, and very challenging for me. I really wanted to paint this in a landscape format, but the cartoon really dictated the portrait layout. 18x24 acrylic on canvas.

Thanks Michael I appreciate your input a great deal. My foreground boat felt like it was "floating" but. I wasn't sure where to go wither water color. Same goes for the dock.

Hi Deedee.  Your composition looks good and your drawing is good.  Maybe a few things to look at in your values and color.  May I suggest that your make the foreground building, its shadow, and the dock ..a darker value ...try using UB + Red + a little yellow.  Under the end of the pier .make darker ..use UB + Red  ..maybe a little mixed blue/green. Put that same dark under the foreground boat ..and some more red to it.  That boat will then sit in the water.  Into the red of the foreground boat, put some more blue to darken it a little more.  Try to keep those shadows in the foreground the same color ...try to avoid the brown ..it does not "fit" into this color arrangement.   Anyway, maybe try out those suggestions and see what you think.  Happy painting! :)
