The feeling of perspective is great with the small trees across the water and the ones on the island are just a little warmer to bring us there and to see the small forms. I think that a tree trim is in order so it doesn't overshadow the people.
Thanks Jessica and Olivia. I need to prune that tree on the left even though it was solid in life so that I decrease it's weight and balance the painting\. I am going to take your suggestion, Olivia, and let the sky gobble it a little. I also need to fix my foreground a bit and lighten up my background trees. Thank you all for the suggestions, and I will repost after the fixes. Stu
Wonderful depth in this one, Stu - beautiful trees everywhere!
Its a really lovely piece Stu. I would let the sky gobble up some of that tree.
Michael is very right about that tree; it really bugs me. I need to either fix this painting or use it as a study for a studio painting of this scene. The shapes are ok but it is very unbalanced by that dark tree.
Beautiful work! I just realized that mine is still in the box. I will take a photo this afternoon may be.
Stu, your impression of this park is conveyed to the viewer very well ..we get a sense of place ..I feel like I am in the park looking out over the leisurely landscape ..watching the people meander through the paths. I see you decided not to do anything with that tree? Stu, I would suggest that you just show some branches/leaves hanging down out of the top left corner ...and then show us more of the park. We will know that a tree is there. The tree is a pretty heavy weight, and as we discussed earlier, the sky, as it slams into that dark mass, is creating to much tension ..it disturbs the serenity of the park We desperately want to see the park grounds BEHIND that tree.
