I will check it out. And, yes, I've eaten enough pears and grapes for awhile as well. Oranges will be a new challenge...and a welcome one. Have a good evening.

Nancy, thanks.  The next class was just announced and will be posted on his website.  It is a freebie and it's titled "Essentials of Painting Rocks".  He's beem talomg each element of landscape painting and giving 3 to 6 classes on the topic.  4 of these are available (mountains, buildings, trees and water) and the last two (water and waterfalls) will be available in a few weeks.  Tomorrow is lesson 3 or the waterfalls class.  He does demos in oils, acrylics, watercolors and pastels.  Each lesson after the first he goes through the homework.  I am fairly hooked on his teaching, he really connects with me because his teaching is very visual.  Much different than Richard's approach.  Thanks for your compliments on my painting; I was pretty happy with it.  Looks like oranges next time; I think I'm up for that.  I've eatem enough pears and grapes for awhile.  Stu

Thank you, Stu, for another great suggestion. I have used dioxazine purple in the past, but have lately been mixing my reds and blues to get purples. I also use it mixed with phthalo green to get a really rich dark. I will try the online painting courses. The last time I did it, somehow I could not get into the right course. By the way, I still love your painting this month...

Nancy, I usually mix my purples also from ultramarine blue and quinacradone red or permanent rose, but I have recently started using dioxazine purple, especially in my landscapes with all the greens.  I got this from Johannes

Vloothuis's online painting courses on WetCanvas Live (www.improvemypaintings.com).  It really simplifies pumping up the darks in value and mixes beautifully with most of my other colors.   Stu

Thank you Stu, and Ann. :-)

My purples were mixed with red and blue. I like mixing colors rather than using them out of the tube. I probably lose a little consistency, especially if I don't mix enough. The colors seem to me to be fresher that way.

Nancy, really nice oil with good color harmony.  Were your purples mixed with a red and blue or with adjusting a tube purple (dioxazine purple)?  Keep up the oils!  Much easier edge control compared to acrylics.  Stu
