Oil on textured panel, 12" by 12" -- painted from photo references taken at Thomas Fogarty Winery, Portola Valley, California. This is a restored 1935 Ford pickup truck carrying wine barrels. These are chardonnay grapes and the wines are quite good!! Fog streaming over the ridge top in the Santa Cruz Mountains and obscuring the distant trees is quite frequent. Pinot Noirs from grapes grown in vineyards on this property are excellent as well.

Thanks Jessica! I know the winery owner and will show him my 3 paintings from his winery, but first I am going to try and get the in a juried show called "delicious" at a gallery in SF. Fun to do these. Stu

Wonderful painting, Stu - love the way you've made the beautiful vineyard in the distance to replace a parking lot - it really makes the truck stand out.  Nice combination of intricate detail on the truck & the atmospheric perspective you achieved in the background, as well as an interesting story line with the wine barrels & vines.  I would think the owners of the winery would want this painting!

Thanks Michael.  I saw this truck when I was painting at the Thomas Fogarty Winery with Laura a week ago Tuesday and painted the other one plein air (Vineyard Bulldog) with not a great outcome because of the changing light conditions.   I went back to the winery with Cindy on Sunday and took some photos with better light.  It was in a parking lot with an ugly background, but I had some nice photos of an adjacent vineyard and exaggerated the fog coming over the ridge and used that vineyard as the background.  I tried to follow Richard's challenge on the lost and found edges and obscuring the background to a degree.  I am really pleased with the color harmony I get using Frank Serrano's palette as well as the ease of mixing grays that the palette provides!!

Hey Stu!!   what a nice job you did here!!   Love your color harmony.  You really nailed the flat grays of that truck ..the green hubs and red barrels make that truck pop!!!

Thanks Jon. Painting each of these cars involved a lot of mixing of different hues of gray within the same value to turn the form to give dimension. Fun and good practice but challenging!

Its very character-ful. The color of the vehicle is extremely well done, Stu - nice color accent on the wheels too!
