11x14" oil on canvas board.
This was to be uploaded to another site, but I could not manage to get it to the size required; so, I thought I would upload it here. This is so much easier.

Thanks Xiao Li.  I'm glad the classes are working well for you.  I have learned so much from JV and I just keep on learning.  I will have to wait for the video to see what he said.  Nancy certainly got a lot more color in hers than I did and her rocks below the water and the little waves in the water are really good.  Stu

Stu, your painting was the second one to be critiqued and JV said he like the design and the rocks were great. He pointed out the crossed tree branches and said it might need more color on the painting.  You were the one introduced me to the class too and I own you a great appreciation.

Nancy, easiest way to get around the WetCanvas Live forum is to go into Johannes site www.improvemypaintings.com and click on his student forum page; that will take you into the WetCanvas Live "threads".  Just bookmark the site and go exploring using your browsers back button to come back to the page.  The date on the left side of the page shows you the last post.  The active threads will be the current course homework (if a course is in session), the student critique thread, the question and answer thread and the discussion thread for the current course.  You will also find homework and discussion threads from all the old courses from the landscape from photos course up to the most recent (rocks) course.  There are a bunch of other threads like "Robert's Notes" , one on net "etiquette" and one on how to upload images to WC, that are very helpful; and there are many other threads within WetCanvas on oil painting, plein aire painting, etc.  To see JVs paintings go back to his website and look in the gallery.   For uploading, you need to know how to resize your photo; that you do with your photo editor by clicking on "Image" and then "resize".   If you do not have a photo editor, the one JV uses is Gimp and you get gimp free by going to www.gimp.com.  There are a lot of very helpful people on WetCanvas forums but I do not think they are as friendly as the people on the "Complete Artist".   One of the people you might know from this site who has just had her work go to the moon by taking JVs course is Vida Evenson; she actually visited JV and took a live course from him this last month (she's from Greece).   She has so many posts that she has become a senior member.  My handle there is "Sgourlayart" and Barb Sawyer's is "Wetpaint0938".   You can send other members a message privately without making them "friends" which is different from this site (not that I mind having all these friends).

Hi Stu. You cannot believe how shocked I was to see my painting being critiqued by Johannes. I had spent hours and hours trying to upload it. First it said the jpeg MB bytes were too big. I finally found the jpeg setting in my camera. After happily solving that problem, it then told me that the dimensions were too large. I cropped and cropped but to no avail. Frustrated, I uploaded it in this workshop. Richard has made it so easy. Lo and behold a savior so kindly did it for me. Ethan Insley from Ontario, Canada took pity on me and through
a program called Format Factor, changed the dimensions and uploaded it. Can you believe how really nice
that was? We really do have some wonderful people in this workshop, don't you think?
Thanks to your suggestion that I try JV's workshop, I have been learning so much. I purchased the first four lessons on painting from photos and want to keep going. The rocks workshops were great and quite challenging. I will make the adjustments in the painting that Johan. Suggested and post that. Thank you for your kind comment and for leading me into this terrific learning experience. I am happy to be a member of the west coast club. We will keep each other going.
Nancy
P.S. How do you upload your paintings in the workshop? Is there an easy way? Also, how do I find the student critique thread? Is there any way to view Johan's paintings? Sorry about all the questions, but I know you are the one person with the answers. Thanks, Stu.

Nancy, I saw this painting posted in the WetCanvas Live forum thread for the waterfalls week 2 homework, but although it said Nancy Sands, the handle of the poster was something different and it said they were from Ontario.  I thought it looked like your work, but then I thought "there must be another Nancy Sands".  I am really glad you started taking these courses from JV and that you are finding them helpful.  This is a really nice painting; if it did not get reviewed with the homework, send it to Johannes in the student critiques thread; he will definitely critique it for you.  You can see my homework in the thread; I missed the class and do not know whether he critiqued it or not.  What I can tell you is that you did a MUCH BETTER job on your homework than I did.  I'm glad you are friends with Barb as well.  We kind of have a West Coast JV and Richard club going here.

Hi  Nancy  , yes i do  teach classes to the local  people  here... they love it and are all so excited to learn.     Iam with Jv  of the  light vs the dark painting ...it was a bad habit I had to get out of . getting my colors to dark .   That was what I experienced with another instructor   way back.   wonder if the personality of instructor  influences the  mood of colors they choose? I took some classes from Daniel Edmondson . each painting I sent it he would always  say  you have sure an individuality in your style  I could  pick your work  out in any showing?   I really didn't  know I did.  I have always  painted the way I felt thing should be  .. Yes  thanks to Stu   I found   JV...He is a great  man and always so helpful...   Take care   good night  barb
