Oil on textured panel 11" by 14" I did a minimal studio tweak and warmed and lightened the highlights with some infused light from the sun behind the bluff and a little more irregularity of the grasses for Ian Given. All of you who thought I should just repaint it, don't worry, I will paint this scene again, maybe right at sunset. It may be hard to see the changes I have made--I scumbled some warm sun color (yellow orange and white) around the edge of the bluff, along the light reflected in the water and on the tops of the grasses in the sunlit water. Oftentimes the contrast of warm/cool is just as powerful as a contrast in value change.

Thanks Ann.  I don't like to do too much to my plein air paintings in the studio, because it encourages me to rely too much on looking for mistakes later and then fixing them.   I prefer to find them during the plein air session and apply the fixes there.   Not so much a purist approach as it is a push to improve my plein air work by honing my ability to see the problems myself and fix them immediately.   This does help for the contests with rules that only allow changes to be made en plein air and for quick paints.   I usually sign the painting in the studio, fix scratches and oil out the painting to even the gloss when it is dry.   Messing with it a lot can ruin it.   Stu

The changes are subtle but add a warm and friendly feeling to your scene. I like the light patches on the bluff and the light on the water
