Febuberries!

11x14 inches. Oil on Canvas.

Learning Points.

1. Perspective. See that first strawberry. I wanted to make it look like it was pointing away. This required perspective, and color choices. Once I had the shape correct. I had to paint it conviencingly. By putting the darker color on the back point of the strawberry, and the highlights on the round part, I have given the illusion of the strawberry facing away.
3. Composition. When I was finishing the painting, something was just not right, then I realized that the 1st and 3rd strawberry were more interesting than the middle one. The first one because of its direction and the 3rd because of the shape/crease in it. So I added a stem to the center one and it worked. It also made repeated the other shapes. Each strawberry is a triangle, and by adding the stem it made the entire composition a triangle as well.
4. A lighter background. I think I am getting more comfortable with it, but have a way to go.
5. Reflections. Thank you to Michael Severin for telling me that reflections that don't look exactly like what they are reflecting look more believable.

Pandalana, Your strawberry's are rendered very well!  You are doing a great job experimenting with various compositions and lighting ..your hard work is going to pay off.  I would like for you to put this little "rule", that I am about to tell you, on your studio wall or next to your easel .......it is one rule of composition that will immediately improve your work ....it is the golden rule of design ..what I am going to tell you, I did not make up myself ..this is what I have read ....are you ready? ...The one rule of composition and design is:  NEVER MAKE ANY TWO INTERVALS THE SAME.    This rule can be applied to distance, shape, tonal value, color, and every other element in your paintings.   Source:  The Simple Secret to Better Painting", by Greg Albert.
