Hi guys! :D
wow.
what a learning experience.
8x24 inches. Oil on canvas.

This is what I put on my blog about it:

8x24 inches. Oil on Canvas 1" deep. Sides will be painted black.

I thought to myself...it would be so cool to paint a Tabasco bottle. And I had a perfect canvas for it...well...now, when I started, I thought that because it was a somewhat larger canvas, that the lettering would be easier....ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...I am sooooo funny. Ok, ok, so maybe I was just punishing myself because I did not do a painting yesterday....or maybe I am just a little bit over zealous....wow. And! Not just the lettering...getting the perspective right on that label is crazy! Did I mention C R A Z Y! It took a LOT of coffee to paint this one! But it did turn out pretty good, don't ya' think. If I don't sell it, I have a PERFECT spot in my kitchen for it!

This is #56 of my Daily Painting Challenge of 365 Paintings in 365 days for 2014.

#106

Initials on the front. Signed, dated, titled on the back.

Learning points:
1. perspective, perspective, perspective...did I say perspective? That label, though it may seem...does not have any straight lines...they are bowed out
2. lettering is hard, especially wet on wet...now it may be a whole lot easier when painting in layers, so that when beginning the lettering and details...you can use a detail medium and are painting on a dry surface...but it is crazy ala prima
3. keeping it painterly. I like the realistic paintings, but I like them to also look like a painting and not like a photograph...so I did not fuss too much over the lettering....and did not make the entire label white...which goes on to learning point #4
4. Again...white is not white...here it is blue...very blue...and pink where I let the lettering blend into it so it was not so stark all over...I wanted the bottle the center of attention not the label.
5. Different textures...and the most fun was the green label because it is very shiny.
6. I love it when things have a glow, and I wanted the liquid in the bottle to glow...so I made it glow...when I put a light on it, it did not have that glow, but when I held it closer to the light and slightly in front of it I could see the light passing through it and giving the "glow"...so I studied the bottle (liquid) for a while prior to painting just to "get it". Then painted that part from memory....I did it by having very light lights closest to the light source, and very dark darks further away...using colors in the same hue.
7. soft and hard edges...I blended the sides of the bottle into the background.

...there are more learning points here...but I am tired...you can probably guess what they are
