The class at CSI Hailey is five week course. We are studying the Betty Edwards COLOR book and the class is formatted into sections of that book. Part one happened this summer and I could not take that section due to work responsibilities. This second part is on Saturday mornings. As I understand it, the third part will take place during the winter-spring semester. I am fascinated by the concept of color now. Ginny showed me how she accents the middle of her flowers with an unexpected color and I am amazed how that makes the painting "pop". So much to learn and so much fun!

How fun. I am on my 2nd color course off of the internet. This one I am doing now is Richard's Color Course. It is a "big" subject and takes so long to understand it all. But then that is half the journey, just to see how long it can take you going toward your destination. I dont think we ever arrive (LOL). Actually though, I used to do people's "colors" and then told them what colors they were suposed to wear for their skin tone. Remember the book Color Me Beautiful? I think it was that training that made me notice the background on this one. So much to learn! I envy you to be able to take a class at college. I hope the class last a long time and they cover a bunch! Would love to hear more about it from you. Ro

Thank you for your comments Roena. I painted this portrait from a photograph and the background was the sagebrush filled hillside behind him. Being a new artist, I incorporated the colors in the background to be the background for my painting. I am in a color theory class now at the local community college and I do understand your comments about the color. :-)

Angela, I think the face is well done, however I do not enjoy the color of the background. When I took my hands and covered up the background, I felt that the face was better. You understand how monitors go, and the photo may not look anything at all like original painting, but I feel the green is distracting and the face picks up that color because it is surrounded by it. Overlooking the green, the painting is nice. Ro
