25 cm x 25 cm, Oil, Plein Air

Worked slowly and tried to be accurate on color. A good subject to see whether there are weaknesses with certain hues. There are certain weaknesses ... I skip posting the photo of those clamps.

Full agreement on all you say. Now I know what I should do on those gray days; more color, more time! Stu

Thanks Stu! It's probably a good hint for clothing .... any color looks good with black :-) Overcast days are great for doing pleinair without much time pressure. I think i couldn't have done this in direct sunlight.

Thomas, thanks for the info.   It would be hard to use those clothespins for putting clothes on the line on an overcast day!  The nice thing about the light on an overcast day is that it is very even with less hue shifting in the shadows and really shows off colors against the grays.   Your black background really pops the colors here.   Nice work and I think a good decision to make it black; with so many different hues in the clothespins it really seems to unify the painting as the dominant color.   It seems to me to make such mundane objects as clothespins take on a very formal appearance.   Great work on getting your shapes just right; these are not simple shapes.    Stu

Thanks Ruby ans Stu!
It painted outside with overcast sky in a corner of a house. The background was rather dark (looking inside the house) and i decided to make it black.

I really like this painting Thomas.   This looks like much more fun than block studies and with the same benefit of observation of the effects of light on colored shapes.   Really cool!   I might try the same thing with a bunch of the little colored clamps that I use when I make up my plein air panels with linen or canvas glued on hardboard.   Did you use a light box or just a single light to set up your study?  Stu
