Afternoon Tree

Afternoon Tree 12" x 12" acrylic on canvas. After doing the waipu lesson I tried to give it a go on my own with one of my photo. (I will post photo also)

Comment by Michael J. Severin on February 22, 2013 at 6:02: Hi Carolyn. The warm grass in your reference photo ..... you really do need that in your painting. A nice design of the grass with a nice design of the snow leading up to the tree ...wow! Also, extend those background trees so they make a dark foil against your light tree ....it does not need to be too dark ....maybe a medium value blue/violet which will play against your yellow/orange tree (a natural complimentary pair). The snow and grass could move from the sunlight into the shadow created by your tree ....anyway, just a few suggestions?
