Trying to simplify this scene & emphasize what I liked about it, I went through a LOT of paint & still didn't get it right! I learned a lot about making mud & applying thick paint :) The workshop deadline has passed, so I am posting 2 photos, one is half way through (maybe I should have stopped there!) The 2nd photo is taken inside as it's a rainy day today. Hmmm......can't win 'em all!!!!

Thanks Olivia for your nice comment - yes, I don't find it so easy to simplify, without making the painting too childish!  But it's a good point that the emphasis should be on what attracted us to the scene & to simplify the rest - but achieving that is another matter!

Thank you for your very nice comment, Ningning!

Thank you very much Lori for taking the time to look & make suggestions; I really appreciate it.  The paint is still wet, so I could indeed blend it more in the background.  About the warm grass in the background, I actually did that deliberately because I want the eye to continue around the curve of the water & follow the light there - but you are right that it would recede more if I made it less bright.

Looking good Jess! I'll be a pain and suggest blending that background so the eye doesn't get drawn there..is say put a large brush at the horizon and pull up. Then think about having the grass back there less bright and warm..cool colors recede into the distance I think..or desaturate the green back there with it's complement. PLEASE double check these suggestions though!!
