Trying to simplify this scene & emphasize what I liked about it, I went through a LOT of paint & still didn't get it right! I learned a lot about making mud & applying thick paint :) The workshop deadline has passed, so I am posting 2 photos, one is half way through (maybe I should have stopped there!) The 2nd photo is taken inside as it's a rainy day today. Hmmm......can't win 'em all!!!!

Worked on this a bit more & posted a new photo below - taken in the sun, which came out today, so colour is a bit more accurate. Followed Lori's suggestion to make the background cooler & more abstract so it would recede. Changed the foreground line of the bank which was parallel to the canvas edge.
Thank you so much, for your encouraging comments, Laura, Lori & Silvana - it's especially nice to hear when this painting was such a difficult one! Yes, I loved the blue reflections in the winding creek & the sun on the river bank. But I don't think I simplified it much - I did try! It took me a long time to get all those greens looking like I wanted them, more or less :) Thanks for the suggestion about the background trees Lori - good idea.
VERY NICE JESSICA!!! And I agree with Lori's suggestion.
Hi Jessica, I like both of them, but I like the first one better. The the sky, background trees water everything is fabulous!!! Very well done!
