Many thanks Michael! I do plan on adding some darks as you and Silvana suggested and I will soften that edge.
Very good Laurena. A good abstract pattern of dark and light and good space division. Great job on that left rock!! I can really feel the power of the falls!! I absolutely love how you handled the foreground water. You have a nice hard edge on the left rock, and a much warmer color .. which identifies the focal point quite clearly!! ..great job on that! I love how the rest of the painting supports your main character ..the left rock! I would suggest you soften those edges in the background ..those hard edges are competing with the focal area. Your painting is great as is, but I do concur with Silvana ...a few darks would have enhanced the rhythm between those two rocks. Great painting!!
:)
I appreciate your help and the mention of visual concepts....and I forgot all about squinting! I will spend more time on this painting after I attempt the rose workshop. I am always learning from the site so thank you.
PS And don't see yourself short as you do great work
Hi Laurena! As you know, I am no expert at all... but all this time trying to handle Richard's Workshops I Have learnt that there should be lights and darks, and that there shoulsd be a clear visual concept in every painting. I think your visual concept is the falls, so all the rest should be secondary. In the image I can see that the falls are lighter and brighter than all the other water around. Squinting can help you see that. But Laurena, these are just my thoughts. I hope they may help you, it's just that I imagine the painting as mine, and I try to think what I would do. I always do that, and am not always successful. Some complete time artists can help you perhaps a bit more...
Hi Silvana, Thank you for commenting on my painting.
Athabasca Falls are amazing and thunder down a lot further than what you see imy reference photo.
There is not a lot of colour in the water and I struggled with the water and scraped off the falls a few times.
So maybe I need to add more darks in the falls?
Hi Laurena! I tink there are some darks missing somewhere on the falls...but unfortunately I can't help you :(... perhaps, looking at the ref photo...
