Michael, Thank you so much for your explanation. I know now how to improve the cable car. I appreciate your help.
Hi Ningning - if you want a more detailed explanation about the shadow areas, take a look at my painting for this workshop & you'll see a very helpful discussion! Lots to learn on this one!
The fender, Ningning, is that black part just under the green. Part of that is in shadow, but the right part is in sunlight. The shadows under the trolley are your darks, so you do NOT make them lighter.....just that small part of the fender that is in the sunlight. .......but no big deal, Ningning,....it was just part of our discussion this morning.
Michael, thank you for your thoughtful suggestions. Jessica share the same idea with you. Now I am sure how to improve them. About the shadow in the light, pardon me for my English, you mentioned "fender" , is the part cover the wheel of the car? Do you mean that I can make the shadow of the cable car and the bottum of the cable car lighter . Lighter then the shadow area of the right side of the painting? Hope that I understand correctly. Again, thank you, Michaeal, for your time. I would like to learn these rules from you.
Jessica, Very good idea! I will follow your suggestion and correct it. Thank you my dear friend!
Hi Ningning, Just darken the shadows under those trees a little to anchor them into the ground ..they are kind of floating right now. I love your thick paint application on the trees and road!!! So let's get back, for a moment, to the discussion of the light and dark thing. Your dark fender on the trolley in the LIGHT, is as dark as the rest of the fender in the shadow ..and is darker then the all your shadow areas. That part of the fender is the darkest thing in the LIGHT, so it must not be darker then ANYTHING in the shadow areas. ....fun little "rule" ..uh?
Hi Ningning - this is really so well done with or without shadows under the trees! I agree with you that shadows on the road could break up the shape - I was thinking of just a light shadow immediately under the trunks & then in the direction away from the road - maybe that would work??
Manneherrin , Vladimir, Mario and Michael, Thank you for your nice words about the value and colour I applied in this painting. Little by little, I learn. I appreciate your encouragement and will continue working on value and colour tecnics. A lot have to learn. Thank you again my friends!
Linda, I am improved of painting trees compare with my previous workshop works. I will keep on improving, thank you. Jessica, you pointed out a problem I am facing with the leftside trees. I realised the problem but at the same time I was afraid that the shadows of the trees may break the shape of the street. I will try to make some very light shadows on the street to see what it will look like. Jessica, thank you so much for your suggestion. I need it indeed.
great painting Li,,the light and shadows are increibles!!
