Michael, Great painting ..for all the reasons already given.  Wow, this is such a good painting.  :))  I agree with Thomas's comment and totally agree with your reasoning for the second figure!!! ...a stroke of genius ..my friend.

Thank you for your kind comments.

Thomas - I was trying to describe a reasonably flat plan. Looking through your eyes though, maybe you're right, I could have added a slightly darker shade to indicate the transition from the bone of the bridge to the cartilage of the bulb of the nose.

Ann - the figure on the left adds a tension and drama that I feel would be lacking if he weren't there. He becomes a story element now. His gaze also takes your eye to him, then the doors and then back to the direct gaze of the main figure. The eye movement of the viewer becomes circular, staying within the frame of the painting.

Anja, Olivia, Jon and Betsy, thanks for the encouragement.

Beautifully brooding ! The dynamic color scheme adds to emotion and is very well done. I am wondering why you chose to add another figure to the left ? Does he help to tell the story ? Add to the composition ? or maybe the contrast between the figures ?

Unusual, striking, loose, great!
Some variation or reduction of that large light shape on the nose maybe?
Congrats, it's impressive!

Yes, I agree with Betsy. Above all the composition and sensation are fresh and dynamic - it's superb
