This is the 5 value B&W of my Workshop2 painting "Chinaman's Bluff". It is a lot different than the 5 value study I did before my painting, because I changed my painting after the underpainting.

Sharon, I have Photoshop Elements v. 7.0.  You can get Photoshop Elements for under $100 and it will do most of what you need.  The full Photoshop is much more expensive.  If you want a freebie to play with, download gimp from www.gimp.com.  It has most of the tools you need, but will look a little different than Photoshop or Elements.  I commented back on your blog for the large painting and sent you a 4value B&W from your painting.  I find that doing it this way works real well.  The guy who did the landscapes from photos, Johannes Vloothuis is also very big on 3 and 4 value studies to develop composition.  His course "Painting Stunning Landscapes from Photographs" is a real tour de force if you want to kick up your landscapes.  You can get it through his website www.improvemypaintings.com.  Stu

Stu, what software do you use to obtain this?  B&W don't work.  I think it is in photoshop, but don't know what version.  I appreciate your responce, thanks!  I think it will help me a lot.
