helena - thank you..sometimes i think i get a bit too loose - leave too much unsaid...but maybe that's not a bad thing...i just sent you a friend request but i didn't say anything on it...i've been on this site for a few years - mostly because of richard's dvds - but have not been very active.  now with this new venture i'd like to become more involved.  i'd like to add the participants as friends...have you done that?

Susie, nice painting.  Thank you for your compliments on my painting.  I voted for the Upper Rees Valley photo for this workshop, but I found Chinaman's Bluff 4 to be a compelling photo with a great lead in and some nice contrasting colors (orange and blues in the mountains and rocks).  As we both agree, Richard's photo was a gem to paint, and although I started with a 5 value B&W study, I mainly followed the color reference study.
