Thanks Christine. :-) The old house was built in the Federalist Style and had square columns. Then much later someone came along and added the wrap around extension to the porch which was held up with raw cedar posts.
It had a spiral staircase, faux marble mantles, and a footprint in blood (supposedly real). Thought to have been haunted. It sure seemed spooky enough when I was around 10 years old.
Thanks Michael for the nice comments. This house was located in Claiborne County, Mississippi. It was way down a gravel road that was off of another gravel road. The only thing that is left is the very old red cedars with the Spanish Moss.
I was told that General U. S. Grant stopped at this house during the Vicksburg campaign.
Very well done Richard!!! ...Great color harmony that "feels" like ..Louisiana or Georgia? You have set up nice repetitions ..creating movement around the house. I like your handling of the roof ..its colors, values, and especially the knife sharp edges! Very nice Richard.
Thanks Sharon. It was a lovely old house with a lot of history. I had visited it as a child and it was a real shame that it later burned. I ended up painted this one for me and then later did a commission piece for the owner.
Love the mood of this painting, beautiful
