PS No need for a hard horizon line when dealing with atmospheric perspective Lori, it must be soft as you have done with your lost and found brushwork :-)

Lori it is a perfect northern hemisphere sunset, where the play of atmospheric perspective and sea haze interplay. You have got this plus the play in value difference between skies and ocean. Your hard work has paid off Lori. The triadic palette is what drew my eye. I like it Lori.

Lovely hazy light and a real feel for the water sliding along the shore - the value pattern lies in the foreground, along with the textural near music. Personally I feel a strong horizon line would lose the brilliant contrast. Nice work Lori.

Nice colors Lori!

Love the colors! The addition of the horison line being more distinct would help, as Roena said.

You're right!! Ill add a line for the horizon...colors aren't as close to real life as I'd like..will take another photo in the daylight tomorrow

Lori, I looked at your reference and the difference between your painting and the reference (concerning the horizon on the water) is that the reference has the water highlighted with the sun, behind that is the dull grayish cloud on the water (you have those), what you missed is a straight horizon line just a tiny bit darker to indicate the water/cloud touching each other. I am having trouble seeing the actual horizon / water edge. Other that that I think this is quite pretty.  I do think though if glazing is what we are after, we need to do the canvas in smooth Flemish style.  I am not enjoying the bumps with glaze between them and think the smooth canvas would be the solution.  Even Arletta wants smooth canvas.  I am glad you got this one finished and can start the alla prima tonight.
