Gosh Annie, you are so hillarious... Another friend on this site challenged me to paint one of my portraits in watercolour and I am still at it.  This is round 2.  The first one I painted like I was using oils...  :))  Okay I will take up the challenge Kiwi Girl,  but give me time to finish my portrait first.
I know it's so very coincidental that both our parents gave us their paints.  I thought it was so special and I thought I was unique until I met you...  :)))  Maybe we should start a blog for painters who got hand me down paints from their parents.... :))))

Annie, thanks for the info on water based oils.  WOW!!  That is such an amazing coincidence.  My father gave me his watercolour paints just before he died. :))

I did not join this workshop as I am still trying to finish a portrait painting in watercolour.  I have been painting too many trees and have lost my portrait painting skills..  :))

Richard does not comment on the watercolour paintings, so I may paint a Park Lane after the competition just for fun.  I have been helping a friend and have already done a pencil value sketch so I guess I am already a third of way there. :))

Ha ha You are like me I usually paint in water colours which is whyI appreciate them so much. My mother lft me all her oils (water based) when she died and doing this course has been my attempt to learn how to use them. Like you I thought you could thin them with water Ha ha In fact the first painting I did for this course I did just that way and thought how awful they were to use. HOWEVER after watching Richards video I realised that you thin them with medium  which you buy at arrt stores. I think water based oils are in vogue for people who dont want to use turps and strong smelling brain affecting stuff. A lot of artists react to it. The brushes wash out well in soap and water so I think that is the difference. Are you going to do a water colour of Park Lane?. I might try one if I get the time. Looking forward to see what you produce

Annie, how do you find working with the water based oils? Is it easy to use, do you thin the paint with water and does water clean the brushes properly also.?

Yes, I paint mainly in watercolours, Annie.   It's very versatile and fun to play with... :)))

Yep we not too far away from where he lives Prob 15 mins drive I dont paint with him though as I am pretty new to all this oil painting stuff and havent yet ventured out to do plein air studies. However I have long admired his work which we see everywhere and especially his ability to capture light on his subjects.  Do you paint mainly water colours???
