Seeing as I've started a version in oils, I thought I cvould add the tree in the initial acrylic one - what do think?

Thanks, Michael - some good food for thought there! - great! I was supposed to ""already know"" about that "rhythm in the lines"" darn it

Jon, I totally agree with Ann about the tree.  It has taken over your whole composition and initial concept.  Suggest you take all those large branches off and just leave the vertical element of the tree trunk and a few wispy branches that melt into the light.  Jon, would like to see you sky brighter and warmer on the left ..which is near your light source.  Also, be careful about those straight lines in the background trees, mountain and clouds ....  you want rhythm in those lines, my friend.  Would also like to see your sunlit grass elevated more in value, color temp, and gradation .... warm (at the left) ..gradating to cooler as it moves to the right.  Okay, that's my 2 cents.  :)))

Thanks, Ann I guess if it's hard to decide, then it would be best to leave it out - I'm struggling with the oil version...

I find the tree to be slightly distracting. It calls to me to "look at me". I enjoy your figure with the light on the roof and path leading us on into the back of the painting. The tree does provide a vertical eye path to balance the diagonals. I think the tree would work better if it was pruned down so that it ust touched the blue mountain but not cover over the whole area. I will be interested to see how you work it out.
