Michael, thanks for another enlightening comment!
I must have thought that the mere onion is not interesting enought. But now i see what you mean. The crack dominates too much .... and disturbs. Enlightning!

The cracks Thomas.  Your onion is painted beautifully.   That crack shape is a target and eye trap that completely takes the focus away from the onion.  Why paint the onion so good and then have something else over shadow it?  I am not saying a shape (crack) cannot be there, but designed into a better shape that relates to the onion.  On your crack shape, you have it smack in the middle and you have a cruciform shape ....both not a good idea...compositionally speaking.

Christine, Cristina and Michael, thanks!
Yep, the shape of the onion looks a bit weird. I played with softening/loosing the edge at the end and made it look more oblate than it should.
Michael, is that what you meant, or the crack?

Beautiful job on the onion Thomas.  Nice loose brushwork.  Thomas, be careful of odd shapes .....they are an anomaly and an  oddity .... and do nothing to enhance the picture.
