Hey you guys, I'm still working on it. I should be able to post it in the next 2 days; I've been busy with my day job, but I'm off 'til after New Years and it's raining here again, so studio time is close at hand. Thanks for your support. Stu

Elfrida, you are absolutely correct, and I do appreciate your comments very much.  As I have learned from Johannes Vloothuis (www.improvemypaintings.com) over the past 2 years:"you are done with a painting when you take out everything that is not needed".  So, I have removed the distraction of the woman in the water and the seagulls, and to address Michael's comments about my 4 figures lined up like a picket fence with 3 nearly identical negative spaces between them, I have filled in some of the negative space with some further back figures.  I also have fixed up some of the distant sky and the bluffs a little and I cleaned up my other picket fence, the three figures in the distant water.   What I liked most about my photo reference was the 3 guys walking down the beach and that's why I painted it; so you are very correct about the distractions.   Thanks a lot for your comments.   The frank input from other excellent artists like you and Michael is always welcome and is why I like this site so much.    I am also looking forward to Richard's  "push the color" because my style of painting seldom does this and it becomes very necessary on many occasions.    Stu

Just read down a bit and saw my comment was redundant. Sorry. Good painting !

This painting evokes a clear mood. Love the feeling of the three guys walking away.I think your work with the water and the shadows in the water works very well. The seagulls and the person in the water near the front are a bit of a distraction. Are they necessary?Super work. I am looking forward to Richard's "push the color " workshop.
